Basic Info
Name:OU!Bito Daisukenojo ("Beat")
Bio
Character: Bito Daisukenojo (AKA “Beat”)
Series/Fandom: The World Ends with You
Original or Alternate: Original

Age: Fifteen
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: At first glance Beat doesn’t look like a typical Japanese boy. He has blue eyes and blonde hair, though most of that is covered by a black hat with a skull on the front. He wears a white muscle shirt over a red undershirt, leaving his arms bare and muscles clearly visible. On his neck he wears a dark gray necklace with a skull ornament of the same color dangling down to the level of his elbows; around his left wrist, a wristband held on by two belt-like strips. His shorts are tan, reaching to halfway below his knees, and he wears gray socks with red-and-black shoes. On his left side, he wears a chain at his waist with a spade hanging down from it just a few inches above where his shorts end.

Personality: Beat doesn’t care much for anything that doesn’t really interest him, and if he doesn’t care about something there’s a fair chance he’ll forget it. This includes intellectual things like schoolwork and vocabulary: Beat frequently mixes up and jumbles words (“confuse” and “un-fuse,” for one). Half the time he’s not interested in learning people’s names, either. Instead he’s prone to giving people nicknames like “Phones,” “Pinky,” and “Ironface,” especially if he starts out on the wrong foot with the person in question. (He probably does remember the names, but he’d rather use his nicknames.)

He’s generally not that smart and he knows it (though he isn’t a complete idiot and can have his own moments of wisdom), though he hates for others to insult his intelligence—if he understands that they’re insulting him, that is, because sometimes either he’ll think they’re complimenting him instead or he just plain doesn’t get what the heck the other person is talking about. He doesn’t like to admit he’s forgotten something important, either, and when pressed he’ll make things up no matter how obvious his failings are until he’s desperate and/or has no choice.

Beat tends to act on impulse and burst into things rather than stopping to think. That’s more of his sister’s area. He prefers living for himself and for his friends, and everyone else comes in second after that. Authority doesn’t make much of an impression of Beat, period, so when he takes things too far he might need to face some consequences. He tends to act tough, and he can be—but he’s also a good friend and brother when he needs to be. He’s pretty flexible when it comes to running with things, but when he doesn’t like something Beat will defy it if he wants to. Beat’s agreeable when he gets along with somebody, but when he doesn’t it probably means trouble, or at the very least a surly attitude.

Beat speaks in a punkish style, slurring words often and using a good amount of slang when he talks. Things he does like include his sister, Rhyme, whom he gets very protective over; his friends, the best of which he met during the Game; skateboarding and skull designs; and curry. Beat likes good curry.

Calling him by his given name is largely unwanted, though—Beat has a strong aversion to it to the point where he starts yelling if anyone even tries to say it.

Abilities/Strengths: Using the Respect pin, Beat is able to fight to some degree with his skateboard, though outside of the UG (a parallel Shibuya) his abilities are more limited. Using his skateboard, he can jump up, and although his ground finishers are more powerful than when he’s in the air he may attack a target either aerially or on the ground while dodging ground-based attacks. Notably, Beat’s much better at fighting than explaining how he fights. He only half-knows the how himself—originally his sister Rhyme figured out the mechanics of it, and then when partnered with Neku he told Neku to figure out all that for himself because Beat couldn’t.

Outside of combat, Beat is very loyal to those he cares about and unpredictably strong-willed when needed, as noted when he and Neku successfully retrieved Rhyme’s Noise pin from Game Master Konishi despite her predictions. If he wants to do something he’ll go to any lengths to achieve it, no matter how radical or insane the methods may be. He was willing to become a Reaper to draw out Rhyme in her Noise form, and to bring her back to life he planned to overthrow the Composer—the head of the entire Reaper’s Game, who had the power to bring the dead back to life among other things—just to be able to bring Rhyme and his other friends back to life.

Weaknesses: Beat is not that bright. Period. He gets words mixed up and jumbled around, and his memory is horrible. He’s forgotten Reaper sports just two days after being kicked out of the Reaper ranks (though to be fair he was only in them for a week, and then who knows how important knowing what Reaper Sport 4 is). Half the time he can’t even tell when somebody’s insulting him, and somebody has to point the fact out so he’ll understand.

On the same thread, thinking ahead is not Beat’s forte either. He thinks with his heart and his gut rather than his head. Ever since entering the Game, his preferred method is to act first and ask questions later, barging into things headfirst and fighting any threats that present themselves before stopping to analyze the situation. In any old battle with Noise sent by a Reaper this might help, but when facing craftier opponents he might run into trouble.

His loyalty to his friends, partners, and other loved ones could also be turned into a major weakness. All somebody would have to do is threaten Rhyme, for example, and if he believed the threat was real then he’d start reconsidering things. Similarly, when those he cares for are already threatened or hurt he gets angry and starts caring less about himself than about seeing whoever or whatever the threat is finished.

He also really, really does not like his given name (Daisukenojo), and will invariably freak out if anybody tries to call him that.

Notable Possessions: His skateboard and his cell phone.
